Sure, winter in the Dolomites is most of all associated with slopes, snow and mountain hut fun. What people forget are the alternatives available in Deutschnofen in wintertime.

If you prefer to get around on two runners than on skis, you will find a number of toboggan runs in the area, two of them even in the Obereggen ski area, for instance. Of these, the Absam toboggan run is still the shorter one at 750 metres; the Obereggen toboggan run offers a full 2.5 kilometres of pure tobogganing fun. Especially (but not only) for the little ones. And the best thing is: you don’t even need a car to get there. Because free shuttle buses run from Deutschnofen to Obereggen.
While tobogganing raises the fun factor, cross-country skiing raises the heart rate. And, in Deutschnofen, not just because of the exertion, by the way. Rather, no fewer than 50 kilometres of groomed pistes crisscross the high plateau of the Reggelberg, and, so, cross-country skiers of all ability levels can let off steam here.
Those who prefer a more tranquil approach should try the winter variant of classic hiking: snowshoeing. Thanks to the baskets on your feet, you hardly sink in, even in deep snow, and so you can enjoy the fairytale landscape and the cold and snow from the forests, meadows and pastures in silence.

When the winter’s day has finally provided for tired muscles, and the cold for rosy cheeks, then relaxation and wellness are in order upon returning to the Hotel Gasthof Stern: in one of the saunas, in the steam bath, in the indoor pool or in the solarium. A winter’s day in the Dolomites cannot end better than this.
